West Stage Regional Showcase Mini-Site

Surface Unsigned Regional Showcase:
From over 12,000 applications from across the UK we are now down to the best 11 bands taking part in the Regional Showcase of the Surface Unsigned Festival in the West. The below line-up will showcase the crème de la crème of unsigned music from the West area; don't miss out!
At the West Regional Showcase 11 bands will play in front of a panel of independent industry guests. The West Regional Showcase will be held on Saturday 4th September 2010.
The Surface Unsigned Regional Showcase scoring works on a points system which combines the scores from our panel of professional judges (3 judges will form the Surface Unsigned Committee) and the result of the text vote for each band. The Surface Unsigned Regional Showcase scoring system works on a 75:25 basis. Seventy five percent of the final score comes from the judges' points and twenty five percent comes from text votes cast for each band. Each judge’s points awarded will contribute 25% of the final score for each band.
Judges (Surface Unsigned Committee): The judges' scores are translated into points with the maximum points available being 11 with the scores going down to 1. (This is dependent on the number of bands playing. For example as we have 11 bands competing in the West Regional Showcase, the maximum points available are 11 with the scores going down to 1.). As there will be three judges each contributing scores from 1 to 11 for each band, each score given will be worth 25% of each bands final score.
Text Vote: In a similar way, the results from the text votes are also translated into points with the band receiving the most text votes receiving the maximum number of points. As with the judges' points, the maximum points available are 11 going down to 1. The scores calculated from the public text vote will be worth 25% of each bands final score.
If there is a tie: If there is a tie at the top of the text vote leaderboard, the tied bands will each get 11 points (and the next band in line will get 9 points). The same applies in any other positions on the text vote leaderboard. If there is a tie at the bottom of the text vote leaderboard then the tied bands will each get 2 points.
Combined Scores: The 3 scores from the judges’ leaderboard and the score from the text vote leaderboard are then combined to calculate each band’s total score. (This means the highest total score a band can get is 44 = 11 + 11 + 11 +11).
Once all 3 judges’ scores and the text votes have been combined, if, in the extremely unlikely event that there is a tie between any bands, then the head judge’s score will make the final decision between the tying bands.
At the Regional Showcases ratings can only be gained through text vote. 1 text vote = 1 rating. Public voting is by text vote only. The size of the likely response to the competition and votes means that text voting is one of the most suitable ways to enable such a large number of votes to be handled. The text vote numbers for each band are displayed below. Please see the below information box on "how to text".
2 bands will progress to the National Showcase on 25th September.
NB: The 2 bands progressing to the National Showcase will not be announced until the end of the Regional Showcase held on the 4th September. These 2 bands will be going on to represent the West in the Surface Unsigned National Showcase.
Surface Unsigned National Charts: There will be an opportunity for two further bands nationally to progress to the National Showcase based upon the highest Surface ratings throughout the Festival (charts). After all the Regional Showcases are finished the top two bands in the Surface Unsigned National Charts will be selected to play in the National Showcase.
The top two bands from the National Charts will be contacted after all the Regional showcases have finished and invited to play at the National Showcase.

How to Text
To vote for your favourite band in the West region simply text WEST followed by the number of the band (for example "WEST 4345") to 64343. Please remember to include a space after WEST otherwise we will not be able to use your vote. All band numbers must contain four digits (i.e. 2345). Voting is available each day starting from 1st February 2010 until the end of the National Showcase, which will be the 25th September 2010. Please be aware voting times may vary or change.

Text votes are counted at the end of the night of each gig via direct online checking. After the vote has been counted text votes received for bands that have not progressed will not be registered but may still be charged for in accordance with the terms and conditions.
If a band progresses through to the next stage then the text vote count will be carried forward to the next stage.
